2012 Kids' Art Contest Winner
A Townsend 4th grader took top prize in the 10th
annual United Way of the Lewis and Clark Area Kids’ Art contest. Nearly 1000 3rd, 4th and 5th graders from Helena, East Helena and Townsend participated by drawing pictures to match the theme, “This is how we LIVE UNITED.”
The 1st place overall winner's drawing captured the theme with the caption, “When people of all colors work together in peace, we are United as ONE!"
Each year, United Way asks teachers around the area to talk to their students about the importance of community service. Students then get a chance to volunteer for the community by drawing a picture on a post card that will be sent out to thank United Way donors. The top three drawings from each classroom get a chance at the grand prize. This year, United Way board members, volunteers, and staff reviewed the top classroom selections and chose 10 finalists who best demonstrated the theme. The finalists’ art was displayed on Facebook for public voting.
The top three overall winners received special certificates and prizes in classroom presentations. Kennedy’s class got a pizza party donated by Wood’s Family Grill in Townsend. The second and third place winners are both students of Nancy Peterson’s 5th grade classroom at Kessler Elementary.
United Way would like to thank all the students who participated, the teachers and school administrators who make the contest possible, the community who voted on Facebook and McDonalds, Burger King and the Helena Brewers for donating prizes.
